Arrival in Brisbane, Australia on Friday, August 22 at 6:30 am local time in Australia. After 23 hours of flying time I was surprisingly alert and of course excited. After a three hour wait I was met by my Academic Director Peter Brennan, and introduced to the other 21 students in my program. All of the students in my program are from universities all over the United States. We stayed in Brisbane for the night in a hostel. It has been raining constantly for the past two days with no sunshine in sight. I have been told that the rain is highly unusual for the winter season. Winter in Australia is June to August. Hooray for the spring! Next we traveled to New South Wales to Linnaeus a private rustic area where we started orientation and camped out in tents for two days (in the rain). We saw our first Australian wildlife at Linnaeus, the wallaby.
