My research will be titled: Evaluating Escherichia coli genetic markers for tracking the sources of fecal pollution in environmental waters. Water quality impairment due to faecal pollution is a serious public health and economic concern worldwide. Faecal pollution in the environment has direct or indirect human health implications. Many pathogenic bacteria, protozoa and viruses can be found in the Feces of animals which can cause severe illnesses. Pathogens from fecal pollution impact the integrity of surface water that are used for recreational activities and shellfish harvesting. Clean fresh water for most people in the world, a luxury. The demand on water supply is increasing in line with economic growth in industry and commerce, and continued population increases.
