In my renewable energy course we have started discussing wind energy and biofuels. We got to learn about the mechanics of different types of wind generators. I didn’t know that there were so many types of wind turbines. Usually you only see the ones with a horizontal axis. Those are the ones that look like little windmills. There are actually many other types. Vertical axis wind turbines actually have the potential to generate a significantly higher amount of energy than horizontal axis turbines, however, they are generally curved and thus much harder to transport and set up. Many people are constantly trying to invent cheaper more efficient wind turbines so that wind energy can be a viable use of renewable energy in many countries. Denmark and Germany produce quite a lot of their energy through wind turbines. In fact, Denmark produces so much wind energy, that they sell it to Norway.
